Victoria Prentis MP has welcomed the news that Theresa May will become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and leader of the Conservative Party by Wednesday evening. The announcement came after Andrea Leadsom MP withdrew from the Conservative leadership contest this morning. Prime Minister David Cameron, who has declared his full support for Mrs May, has announced that he will leave Number 10 on Wednesday afternoon to avoid a prolonged period of transition.

Victoria Prentis, who supported Mrs May’s leadership campaign, commented, “I am absolutely delighted that Theresa May is going to be the next Prime Minister. I have full confidence that she will provide the strong, stable and inclusive leadership our country needs. The coming years are going to be very important for the UK, and I am glad that we will have a steady hand on the tiller of government.

“David Cameron has been an exceptional public servant and a great Prime Minister, and I wish him and his family well. I look forward to supporting Theresa May as she takes on this great mantle of responsibility.”
