Victoria thanks Armed Forces Reservists on Reserves Day

Today I extend my best wishes and thanks to all Reservists who serve in the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force. The dedication and professionalism of our Reservists is exemplary, and we are lucky that so many people choose to commit their time to the Armed Forces alongside their civilian careers.

Recent restructuring of our Armed Forces has meant that Reservists are now an even more important element of the country’s defence capabilities. A great many have served with distinction alongside Regular forces, not only in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, but also in efforts to tackle Ebola and in humanitarian missions to address the migrant crisis.

During my career in the Civil Service I worked closely with both Reservists and the Regular personnel of our Armed Forces, and I have seen first-hand the great work that they do. We are fortunate to have 142 (Queen’s Own Oxfordshire Hussars) Vehicle Squadron, Royal Logistics Corps, based in Banbury, and I know that the residents of the town are immensely proud of the unit.

I hope that people across North Oxfordshire will join me in thanking Reservists for their service on this national Reserves Day.
