Over recent weeks I have spent a lot of time speaking to the secondary school headteachers in my constituency including The Warriner School, Whitelands Academy and The Cooper School. They share my disappointment that children will not be able to sit their exams as anticipated this summer.
I have always felt that every effort should be made for them to go ahead given that exams provide a fair and accurate representation of a student’s performance. However, I recognise the unprecedented circumstances we find ourselves in and accept that some alternative arrangements must be considered.
The Department for Education and exams regulator, Ofqual, are in the process of consulting on proposals for this year's exam grades. I have submitted a response in my capacity as Member of Parliament and as the parent of a child who should have been sitting their A-Levels this summer.
