It was great to visit Amazon’s delivery depot in Banbury on Friday. I met Site Manager Andy, who gave me a tour of the site alongside members of the senior leadership team. I was pleased to be able to discuss their operations in Banbury and also their efforts to improve engagement with the local community.
Amazon employs over 450 people at the Southam Road site and supports over 170 local sellers. I was told that 122 of these sellers export outside the UK, with overall sales worth over £7.6m last year alone. I was particularly interested to learn that over 1,300 Banbury entrepreneurs have benefited from Amazon’s Small Business Accelerator programme, which aims to support small business development.
I wish the whole team well in the run-up to Christmas – unsurprisingly their busiest time of year!
