The Oxford Road site has been a much-loved and well-used sports ground in Bicester for 100 years. My own children grew up using it and it has been the home of so many local sports teams who are all understandably disappointed at its sale.
We have known for some time now that the site could no longer be used after 31 May. I have been involved in a number of meetings to discuss future sporting provision in Bicester and have always been very clear that we need to make sure that adequate facilities are provided, particularly as the town grows at pace.
Plans for expanded provision at a site in Chesterton are the subject of an appeal which will be heard very shortly. It is clear to all those who have been involved in discussions that we need to ensure all our sporting initiatives, from football to rugby and hockey, are able to find a new home. I remain committed to helping with that process where appropriate and speaking up for all my constituents affected by the closure of the Oxford Road site.
