Just before Christmas I met the Environment Agency and the Director of Opes MRF 2013 Ltd (the operator of the Finmere Landfill Facility) to discuss ongoing remedial work at the site.
I was pleased to hear that reshaping work on Cell 10 has been completed sufficiently to allow capping works to start. The first stage of this involves placing a regulating layer across cell 10, ready for installation of the engineered cap.
While the facility was closed over the Christmas period, I have been told that work on the regulating layer should now resume. Gas wells in Cell 10 and across the site have been connected which should help to reduce the potential for odours.
I am hopeful that we might be able to organise a virtual meeting for residents with the Director of the facility in the coming weeks. In the meantime, I know that the Environment Agency continue to monitor the site closely. Residents should continue to report any unpleasant odours via the EA's incident hotline: 0800 80 70 60.
