I am really pleased to see the Department for Transport bring forward plans for flexible season tickets from next month. It is an issue I have raised with various Rail Ministers over the years as well as successive Managing Directors at Chiltern Railways. Flexible season tickets clearly support our new working habits which we have all got used to during the pandemic, but are hugely beneficial to working parents who have to juggle childcare responsibilities alongside commuting a few times a week.
During my time in the Civil Service before I became a MP I did a job share with another female colleague which allowed us both the time to focus on work and our families throughout the week, but meant we only travelled to London a few times. A season ticket was of no benefit to us given that it was based on travel five days a week, so the flexibility offered by these new season tickets is extremely welcome news.
