Today I was pleased to convene a small meeting with Thames Water to get an update on their work in Caulcott. This is one of the most regularly complained about sites in my constituency and so this was a very welcome opportunity.
Thames Water have confirmed that they have completed relining work in all but a small section of the gravity feed. This will reduce ground water infiltration by 50% which should remove the need for tinkering. This reduction in infiltration will also allow better surveillance to take place and for Thames Water to further analyse specific points of infiltration. We have agreed to meet again in a few months time to discuss how this further investigation work has gone.
As of next week Thames Water are going to discuss further the repair work and put this past residents. Residents will be able to make clear any omissions they think there may still be.
The final area of discussion was that of compensation. Thames Water were keen to do this but felt it would be best to do so as a matter of community benefit. It was, however, made clear to Thames Water that there is no community facility other than the Pub in Caulcott and so this is not going to work. We made clear that some form of direct compensation is the only route which is now likely to work.
Thames Water are going to take this away and continue this discussion with my office over the next couple of weeks. I look forward to updating residents as soon as possible.
