On Monday, I was pleased to sit down with Transport Secretary Mark Harper and Rail Minister Huw Merriman, alongside fellow Chiltern MPs Greg Smith, Rob Butler and Steve Baker.
We had a productive discussion on a number of rail-related issues which have been raised by our constituents, including:
- Overcrowding on Chiltern Railways and the need to support their fleet renewal program, ensuring the service’s future success.
- Chiltern’s consultation on ticket office closures and the importance of ensuring services remain accessible.
- East West Rail construction activity and its impact on residents, including the London Road crossing in Bicester.
The Secretary of State and Rail Minister listened to our concerns and it is clear they are committed to improving services across the network. I was reassured that they understood the frustration of many of my constituents who rely on Chiltern to get them to and from work, school and important appointments. The level of overcrowding experienced by commuters recently must be addressed. I am confident that the Department for Transport will work with Chiltern to deliver improvements and ensure local railway services are fit for the future.
