At the weekend, the Government launched the Covid Winter Grant Scheme. Building on the significant support given to the most vulnerable during the pandemic, the new £170m Fund will be run by councils in England. This package is the culmination of a lot of hard work over recent months between Government departments, local authorities and other organisations. Recently the Trussell Trust and Children’s Society told me that a targeted fund such as this reaches those who need it most.
It is critical that families get the support they need. By extending the Holiday Activities and Food Programme by up to £220 million, the Winter Support Package provides a range of comprehensive measures to help children and families over the coming months. I am pleased to have been involved in the work on these important measures in my Ministerial role, chairing the Taskforce for feeding the vulnerable. This package will help deliver the best outcomes for those most in need.
I remain absolutely committed to ensuring that the right support is there for those who most need it.
