On Friday 4 December I visited Queensway Primary School to meet Year Six. My visit was particularly special, as I announced the winner of my annual Christmas Card competition, Nicholas Watts and presented him with his prize. Every Christmas, local primary schools enter designs to become the front of my Christmas card, which I send out to colleagues, family and friends. Nicholas’s design was brilliant!
It was great to catch up with Year Six and answer their questions about life as an MP. I was asked some fantastic questions, from my favourite aspect of being an MP, the process of becoming an MP, to my thoughts on Coronavirus and my day-to-day duties in Parliament.
My visit also gave me the opportunity to ask them how they had found school this year given coronavirus, and their plans for Christmas. It was great to hear that the pupils enjoyed coming back to school following the first National Lockdown and are looking forward to starting secondary school next year.
I was particularly impressed to learn that teachers at Queensway are trialling online learning, so if another lockdown occurs and schools have to close, lessons can be live streamed from home. This again highlights the tireless work of schoolteachers throughout the pandemic, to ensure that school students stay on top of their studies and learning.
Congratulations again to Nicholas for winning my Christmas card competition, and to my Runner Ups, Emily from Bure Park Primary School, and Nathalie and Felicity from St John’s R.C. Primary School. I hope that Queensway Primary School have a fantastic end to their term and enjoy the Christmas break.
