On Friday 19 March I was invited to Grimsbury Community Centre in Banbury to see the rollout of the Coronavirus vaccine by Hightown Surgery. It was great to see such a well organised and efficient set up, with over 125 patients an hour being vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine over the course of the day!
My visit highlighted how the rollout of the vaccine really is the light at the end of the tunnel after a difficult year. Practice Manager Diane Stringer informed me that, of the over 70s, there has been a 95 per cent uptake of the vaccine, which I was very pleased to hear.
It is because of surgeries like Hightown and the incredible volunteers, including retired GPs and nurses, that we have been able to get the first dose to people in the priority groups so quickly. If you are aged 50 or older, you are now able to receive your first dose. If you have not done so already, please visit: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/ to book your place.
