I received an update from Oxalis Planning today. From this, I understand that the first public consultation for the proposed Oxfordshire Strategic Rail Freight Interchange has been delayed.
It is expected that the stage one consultation, which was set to begin next month, will now not take place until next spring. I am told that this is the result of technical assessment work not being sufficiently advanced.
The developer continues to undertake technical work on pivotal aspects of the scheme. This includes possible improvements to J10 of the M40, as well as a Middleton Stoney relief road, both of which would be required if the project proceeds.
I further understand that the developer remains in discussions with Network Rail regarding the overall viability of the scheme. Having contacted Network Rail myself, I am told that they are working with the developer to understand whether this scheme is feasible in terms of its impact on the railway system. Understanding the feasibility of the scheme will then allow Network Rail to decide whether they can support the project moving forward.
It is clear to me that fundamental questions remain over the proposed SRFI's viability. While this is the case, I cannot see that this is a suitable location for such a development.
