I appreciate that some constituents are worried about cost of living increases, particularly in relation to their energy bills. The energy regulator Ofgem has announced that the energy price cap will rise in April. Without action, this could be very tough for families.
Today, the Treasury has announced a package of measures to combat this. Through cuts to both fuel bills and to council tax, it will give up to £350 extra support for all households.
Firstly, all domestic energy customers will receive an upfront discount on their energy bills worth £200. I understand that suppliers will apply the discount on people’s bills from October later this year. People will then have five years to repay the discount in equal instalment of £40 a year.
Secondly, households will receive a £150 council tax rebate in April. This council tax discount will cover households in Bands A to D – around 80% of all homes in England.
Vulnerable households can also find financial support through a number of targeted schemes including the Winter Fuel Payment and Cold Weather Payments. Additionally, most energy providers offer a Warm Home Discount to those eligible.

I hope this news will be reassuring to families in North Oxfordshire.
