Victoria Prentis, Member of Parliament for North Oxfordshire, has welcomed additional funding for parks in her constituency. Residents of Deddington and Stratton Audley will soon be enjoying new community facilities, thanks to a funding award of £40,000 from the Government’s £3.75m Pocket Park Fund.
In Deddington, the grant will enable the refurbishment of existing play areas at the Windmill Community Centre, including a sheltered area for parents and guardians. Stratton Audley will also see the creation of a new park opposite the Church on land owned by the Parish Council, which will include a natural wild area, orchard and kissing gate.
The fund requires parks to help visitors engage with the natural environment, something both projects achieve in their designs. Cherwell District Council is providing additional financial and project management support, and works are expected to start later this month in both villages. The installation of the new play equipment will be complete in time for the summer holidays.
Speaking about the development, Victoria Prentis MP said: “Green spaces and community facilities are so important, particularly given ongoing development in North Oxfordshire. I am delighted that Deddington and Stratton Audley have received the funding and I am sure the projects will be enjoyed by residents in and around the villages.”
