I understand that in recent weeks the odour from the Finmere landfill has become particularly strong again. This is extremely disappointing given efforts by the Environment Agency and the operator to cap cells and manage the landfill more responsibly.
Having sought an update from the Environment Agency I have been told that:
“At present, we do not believe the operator is taking all reasonable measures [to prevent malodours] and we are taking the necessary actions to address this.
“As such we have been working to ensure odours are addressed as promptly as possible and can confirm that the operator recently installed new gas extraction wells. We are also working to ensure additional capping work is started soon which again should help reduce odours emanating from the site.”
