Victoria Prentis, Member of Parliament for North Oxfordshire, has welcomed additional funding of three quarters of a million pounds for Bicester’s Garden Town Project.
Cherwell District Council has been awarded funding of £770,000 from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, one of the highest amounts received nationally. Residents will soon be enjoying improvements to the town centre, including the Market Square.
More than £100,000 has been earmarked for the development of central Bicester, with funding also secured to enhance access to green spaces and the countryside. The grant will also be used to put on more cultural events in the town through the continuation of the Healthy Bicester programme.
Speaking about the funding, Victoria said: “Given the recent growth we have experienced in Bicester, access to green spaces and the development of the town centre is so important. I am delighted that Cherwell District Council has received this funding and I am sure the project will be enjoyed by my constituents in and around Bicester.”
Cllr Lynn Pratt, Cherwell’s lead member for economy, regeneration and property said: “Winning such a large amount of funding will enable Bicester to grow whilst improving the lives of those residents who currently live in the town. It is pleasing to see that the hard work which has already gone into Bicester’s Garden Town Project can be furthered after securing this bid.”
